Affirmative Action Policy

A priority ranking has been established for Teachers and other education professionals with Yellowknife Catholic Schools. While Yellowknife Catholic Schools is not directly governed by the Government of the Northwest Territories, we will attempt to honor The GNWT Lay-off and Affirmative Action Policies that identify the priority for hiring staff into GNWT positions. After returning staff members who have been on approved leave and staff members who have received official lay-off notice, the Priority Ranking for applicants is as follows:

  • Priority #1: Qualified Catholic applicants who are indigenous Aboriginal persons
  • Priority #2: Qualified Catholic applicants who are indigenous non-Aboriginal and/or disabled persons
  • Priority #3: Qualified Catholic applicants who are NWT residents
  • Priority #4: Qualified Catholic applicants who reside outside the NWT
  • Priority #5: Qualified applicants who are indigenous Aboriginal persons
  • Priority #6: Qualified applicants who are indigenous non-Aboriginal and/or disabled persons
  • Priority #7: Qualified applicants who are NWT residents
  • Priority #8: Qualified applicants who reside outside the NWT.

Priority #1 applicants who meet the screening criteria will be interviewed first. If no suitable candidate is found, then Priority #2 applicants who meet the screening criteria will be interviewed, and so on.
